Working Well - Creating a Culture Where the Healthy Choice is the Easy Choice

Presenter: Jen Wright, BS
Working Well Manager, South Carolina Hospital Association

Helping your employees choose the healthy choice through policies, systems, environments, and benefits. Exploring worksite wellness plans around the three pillars of effective wellness culture. Ms. Wright will discuss:
  • Tobacco free people and places
  • Healthy food environments
  • Physically active worksites and how they affect recruitment, retention, and job satisfaction
Jen Wright has spent her professional career in many facets of healthcare from clinical to community outreach, health promotion and management. Jen began her career as a clinical exercise physiologist in both inpatient and outpatient settings, educating patients and families on prevention and disease management through healthy eating and active living. In her role as Wellness Coordinator for Hilton Head Hospital in Hilton Head, SC, she coordinated wellness/prevention initiatives for, schools and after school programs, worksites, employees of the healthcare system, and the community at large.

Jen joined the team at the South Carolina Hospital Association in early 2011 as the Working Well Manager. This role has her engaging and activating hospital executives and their wellness teams across the state of SC to create a culture of wellness on their campuses by implementing polices, environments, and systems supportive of tobacco people and places, delicious and affordable healthy food, and opportunity for physical activity during the workday. This initiative positions hospitals as leaders in their community and catalysts for other industries to make the healthy choice the easy choice for their employees.

Jen serves on a number of local, statewide, and regional coalitions and committees. She just recently accepted the role to co-chair the Southern States Worksite Wellness Workgroup to establish and implement the southern obesity prevention strategy. She earned her degree in Exercise Science from Truman State University.

It has been said by her co-workers that, “Wellness is not her job, it’s her passion.”
